Dr. Tracy Bender
Dr. Tracy Bender is an Occupational Therapist and the director of rehabilitation at the Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center, specializing in oncology rehabilitation and lymphedema. She is also a Certified Mastectomy Fitter and certified Restorative Yoga Instructor. She works with patients with all different types of cancer, at all phases of the disease process, and throughout survivorship.
Due to the growing emotional and physical needs of survivors of cancer, she founded a company called Resilience Survivorship to provided needed education, tools and resources to address those needs. She is very passionate about providing comprehensive care to all cancer survivors, and paving the way for
more advanced development of oncology rehab and lymphedema services throughout the United States. She is also a trainee and applicant of the NBC hit show, American Ninja Warrior, Seasons 10 and 11, as an advocate for those suffering from lymphedema.
My name is Kerri Denell, and I am passionate about social work, living life to the fullest, inspiring others, and chocolate! I have my bachelors and masters degree in social work. Five years ago, I was certified as a legacy navigator to achieve my dream of helping individuals, families and groups create and fulfill legacy wishes through writing. I discovered my passion for legacy work after 8 years in hospice care. I wholeheartedly believe preserving your legacy is about honoring life and the spirit of continued giving. As a proud small business owner, a kickin' wife and mother of 4 kiddos, I hope to inspire people to discover how they want to BE REMEMBERED and to turn that vision into a tangible gift that can be shared with future generations. Alison Rash is an artist, professor and cancer fighter/survivor. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2014 and had her first metastatic relapse in July 2016 followed by a second relapse in May 2017. She has been back in Lincoln focusing on the small moments for three years after spending 17 years living in Los Angeles.
Alison's current body of work explores the ideas of absence and presence, loss and revelation, chaos and control, pain and beauty. Her work occupies the intersection among order, coincidence and manipulation and contemplates her own cancer diagnosis. The paintings, while appearing physical, are very light in paint application. Alison earned an MFA from Claremont Graduate University with a concentration in Painting, an MA in Education from Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology and a BA in Art from Pepperdine University. She has exhibited in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, San Diego, Dallas, Park City and Washington D.C. as well as internationally in Paris, France; Venice, Italy; Bogota, Columbia; Mexico City, Mexico and Tokyo, Japan.
Karen is the Director of the Lincolnaire Chorus in Lincoln, NE and has been a member of Sweet Adelines International for almost 27 years. She stepped in 10 years ago as the Chorus Director anecting, once she started, realized that she was meant to do it! "Singing is my passion so why not share it with others!!" Karen is a d while she never thought about dir2 1/2 year breast cancer survivor and believes that singing and performing helped ease the stress of treatment.
Karen also works for the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, as a Personnel Generalist. She has two grown children, and a cute kitty cat named Gina who loves to hear her sing!
Sara is a wife, mom of 5 energetic boys, and a pharmacist of 15 years. Her passion for helping people with their health was not being fulfilled by conventional medicine. She recently learned that prevention and teaching people how food can be their medicine was her true passion. This drove her decision to take classes to become a Certified Health Coach. When her family was hit hard with several cancer diagnoses, she decided to further her nutrition education even more. In 2018, Sara became a Certified Holistic Cancer Coach through the Center for Advancement of Cancer Education. Giving families hope and seeing them transform their health with whole foods and lifestyle changes is the most satisfying work she's ever done!
Maggi is a four time top competitor for the Emmy nominated show American Ninja Warrior, Ninja Warrior Las Vegas Finalist, two time Team Ninja Warrior competitor, and two time NBC Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge Competitor. An active Mother of 3 taking and high level athlete also competing in the World’s Toughest Mudder placing 2nd running 75 miles and completing 330 obstacles in 24 hours. A previous Mrs. International she advocates for children in poverty as a Global Ambassador for Convoy of Hope feedONE initiative which $10 provides meals for a month. She is an Endorsed Athlete for ARYSE. Previously she had a decade long career at the University of Nebraska Athletic Department spearheading over $340 Million in Athletic Capital Construction Projects.
As a former Girl Scout, she recently launched an initiative with the Girl Scouts of Nebraska for a “BOW” patch to encourage female Entrepreneurship, Empowerment and Community Engagement. Mrs. Driewer received her bachelors from Doane College in Sports and Fitness Management in 2007.After graduation she worked as a department manager and provided bra fittings at retail store for 2 years. She also has had 6 years of experience in the therapeutic setting. She then received her BOC certification in Mastectomy Fitting in 2016 as well as a certification in compression garment fitting. Mrs.Driewer is passionate at providing the best service for her patients as well as staying up to date on the
latest breast prosthesis, mastectomy bras, and compression garments.
Brad is a lifetime Lincoln Nebraska resident. He is married to Nancy, has two married daughters and five grandchildren. He attended the University of Nebraska and its Law College before beginning a legal practice and financial advice practice. When his 50th birthday arrived he was asked to join the staff at Lincoln Berean Church as a Pastor in the area of stewardship. For the last 15 years Brad has served at Berean giving legal, financial and spiritual advice. During the last 5 years Brad has been recovering from a battle with cancer that was certainly the greatest challenge of his life. The spiritual journey of the last 5 years profoundly changed Brad and is what motivates him to speak at the Resilience Survivorship event.
Michaela L. Bidrowsky, COTA/L, CLT, CLM
Michaela is a 1999 graduate from Clarkson College, where she obtained her associates degree in Occupational therapy. In 2003, Michaela studied at the Academy of Lymphatic Studies in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and received her certification in lymphedema treatment. In 2006, Michaela received her certification to be a Lebed Method/Healthy Steps instructor. Michaela’s career started at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE for 17.5 years until she decided to join Tracy Bender’s cancer rehabilitation team at the Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center in March of 2017. She is always looking for
new educational courses to attend with a focus on Cancer Rehabilitation.
When she is not working Michaela enjoys spending time with her husband David, daughter MaKenna and silver lab BrecKenn. She loves the outdoors and staying active.
Shelly Olson, Restorative Yoga Instructor, Yoga for cancer Instructor, Occupational Therapy Tech – Ms. Olson is from Omaha, Nebraska. She has five years’ experience working with patients with lymphedema and cancer in a clinical, therapeutic setting. She is specialized in two areas of yoga practice; Restorative Yoga and Yoga for Cancer. She obtained her Restorative Yoga Certification at Bhadra Yoga in Omaha in 2016.
